  WHY TEACH/LEARN VERSACAD?

We often hear "why would anyone want to teach a CAD other than AutoCAD?". Here are seven reasons why VersaCAD is better to teach:

1. There is a fallacy that a student learning AutoCAD is learning what he or she will find in industry. But, lets be real. A high school student is 5 years from employment and a college student is 2 or 3 years away. What they learn in school will bear little resemblance to what they find in industry. Versions change, companies customize software. They will probably forget the specifics of the software they learn anyway. What industry needs are recruits that can learn quickly how that company does its business, and knows the concepts of CAD.
2. A student copy of AutoCAD varies by old or new version, but, is usually well over $200. A student at a school with a VersaCAD site license gets a copy free.
3. One of the characteristics needed of a software to be taught is that it is easy to learn the syntax and rules so the student can quickly learn the important concepts. VersaCAD is one of the easiest and quickest to learn.
4. Here is an interesting fact: A controlled study by Coastline showed that a student who first learns VersaCAD and then AutoCAD will know AutoCAD better than someone who only learns AutoCAD. So, teach VersaCAD and then an old version of AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT and your students will excel.
5. Cost is an important factor. VersaCAD has a variety of academic programs designed to conserve the school's budget not make a big profit. For example, the cost to renew a 50 seat lab is only $595. Upgrading a 50 seat AutoCAD lab costs more than $10,000.
6. VersaCAD runs on any hardware that you have. Other CAD requires very large computers to run on, so, VersaCAD saves in many ways.
7. There is the fallacy that VersaCAD is not used by any firms. The fact is that many very successful firms have used VersaCAD for years and still do: Watry Design, Appalachian Log Stuctures, Air Canada, award winning architects such as Hairbedian, Dubourdieu, Frick Frick and Jette, manufacturing companies such as Lucent Technologies, Oilgear, Sevice Tool and Die, F.L. Smithe, KLAL Engineering, FMH, Moen, Erie Scientific and many more.
