James Beavers,
President of Whitney Design Group, says:
"For very complex projects, I find it easier to create several small
VCAD drawings, each represents a different element such as a wall, glass,
rail
or
slab, and then create the DXF files for import into Rhino. This allows
you
to bring each in separately which makes assigning layers with materials
and
colors to the various elements very easy.
When using this method, I generally assign Z Top and Z Bottom to the same
value and Extrude after I have imported the DXF file(s) into Rhino. In
either case the process is very fast. I Render it with Flamingo for
realistic images including ray tracing and radiosity. Make a walkthrough
or
automatic solar study in minutes. For very complex 3D files this can take
awhile as each frame in the sequence must be rendered separately. "
This is a trully practical and affordable way to use computer aided
design
to increase productivity of an architectural practice without spending an
arm and leg for the tools needed to do it. And, to make it even better,
VersaCAD and Rhino have the shortest learning curves and least onerous
licensing procedures.
Whitney Design Group of Miami Beach FL has been using VersaCAD and
Rhino
for years.
